Find my dead mom’s phone, it has her videos photos: Girl to Kodagu DC | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MADIKERI: A nine-year-old girl who lost her mother to Covid a week ago has one appeal to Kodagu district authorities: “Please find and return my mother’s missing phone. It has a trove of her and family photos and videos.”
The girl, Hrutiksha, from Kushalnagar in Kodagu district, about 280km from Bengaluru, has made the appeal through a letter and video message to the deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, lawmakers and the hospital where her 37-year-old mother died.

Hrutiksha, set to enter Class V next month, is the only child of her parents. The phone also has online school videos she attended last year during the first wave of the pandemic. Moved by her plight, Congress workers from the district on Sunday donated a smartphone to the girl so that she could continue her online classes.
Cops told to trace phone location
Coming to terms with the twin blows of having lost her mother and now recovering from Covid, Hrutiksha is keen on cherishing the memories of the family from happier times.
Police said the girl and her parents Prabha and Naveen Kumar, a painting labourer, tested positive for Covid in early May. While Hrutiksha and her father were quarantined, Prabha was rushed to a Covid hospital in Madikeri on May 6 and she passed away on May 16. After she was cremated as per Covid guidelines, the distraught family received the valuables, but not her cellphone, from the hospital. DC Charlulatha Somal said she had spoken to local police officers to find out the location where the cellphone was last active. Superintendent of police Kshama Mishara said a thorough inquiry would be conducted into the incident.
Naveen, 41, said his wife’s smartphone had a lot of valuable content.
District surgeon Dr Manjunath said they will request hospitals to hand over all personal belongings of the dead person to his/her family members under the supervision of a doctor to prevent any possible complaint and added that they will be stored in newly set-up lockers during the patient’s stay in hospital.
