Fresh blow to LJP in Bihar as its lone MLA joins rival JD(U) | Patna News – Times of India

PATNA: In yet another blow to LJP, its lone MLA Raj Kumar Singh from Matihani in Begusarai on Tuesday formally joined JD(U) in the presence of CM Nitish Kumar. The development comes about a month after the only LJP MLC Nutan Singh joined BJP.
Nutan’s husband Neeraj Kumar Singh alias Babloo is a minister in the Nitish cabinet.
The Matihani MLA had invited the party’s ire recently after he voted in favour of JD (U) candidate Maheshwar Hazari during the for the post of the state assembly deputy Speaker.
Earlier in the day, Bhudev Rai, secretary incharge of state legislative assembly, issued an order stating that the LJP MLA had appeared before the assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha on April 5 and requested to recognise him as a member of JD(U) legislative party.
According to a notification issued by the assembly secretariat, the Speaker recognised Singh as a member of JD(U) legislative party on the latter’s request.
JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha and chief whip of the party Shravan Kumar had also given their consent on the matter.
In the evening, Singh had a formal meeting with CM Nitish at the latter’s residence.
LJP lacks clarity: MLA
After the meeting, Singh told reporters outside the CM’s residence that there was lack of clarity in the LJP, whether they were part of the NDA or not.
“I was part of the NDA from beginning. The party guidelines were not clear. NDA in Bihar is led by CM Nitish Kumar and we should work under his leadership for development of the state,” he said.
He added: “Bihar First, Bihari First is not only a slogan. It is the aspiration of 14 crore people of the state, which means respecting a progressive leadership and working with it. I did the same.”
Building construction minister Ashok Choudhary, who was present in the meeting, told reporters: “He (Singh) came to us and expressed his desire to work under the leadership of Nitish ji. I talked to Nitish Ji and today they met. LJP had served a notice on Raj Kumar Ji and he has given an explanation today.”
LJP’s national secretary-general Abdul Khaliq, however, said the Matihani MLA was asked to explain the reasons for the voting in favour of Hazari. With the lone MLA switching over to JD (U), LJP has not a single member in the House. The tussle between LJP and JD(U) came to the fore during the 2020 assembly elections.
As a result, LJP went solo in the elections and could win only one seat— Matihani. JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha said LJP is a party of one family, while JD(U) accommodates and respects everyone.
