Himachal Pradesh: Villagers clash with cops after woman’s murder by ashram worker | Shimla News – Times of India

SHIMLA: Tension gripped Jadla Kodli village of Gagret sub-division of Una district on Wednesday following the murder of a 22-year-old woman MCom student by the sevadar (worker) of a local ashram temple.
Demanding to hand over the accused to them, angry villagers made the officials from police and administration hostage for a while as they clashed with police and pelted stones.
Situation was under control after SP, Una, Arjit Sen Thakur arrived at the spot with additional forces and after much efforts managed to disperse the crowd from ashram complex to create safe passage to transport the accused person to police station.
According to information, the girl who was pursuing MCom from Post Graduate College Una had suddenly disappeared from her home on April 3 and next day on April 4, the missing report was lodged in the police station of Gagret.
When the police questioned the accused Vikas Dubey (24), resident of Uttar Pradesh in this context, on the basis of suspicion, he confessed that he had killed the girl and buried her body in the backyard of a temple.
Police officials said that after lodging the missing complaint, police started the search operation of missing girl on the basis of her mobile location which was later found near the temple. Officials said that when Vikas Dubey was interrogated on the basis of suspicion, he admitted to having killed the girl.
Police officials said that accused had allegedly hit the girl on the head with an iron rod and when she died, the accused packed her body in a bag and buried it in the field located on the backside of temple.
At the time of incident, main priest was not present in the temple. Police has recovered the body at the instance of accused and sent it for post-mortem.
After coming to know about the gruesome incident, villagers in large numbers gathered outside the ashram and later they entered inside the complex and tried to enter the room where the accused sevadar was kept in detention by police. While demanding that accused should be handed over to them, agitated villagers scuffled with police personnel and they also pelted stones. In the stone pelting, a police driver and a media person were also injured.
As situation went out of control, SP Una along with DSP (headquarters) Ramakant Thakur and DSP (Haroli) Anil Kumar Mehta reached at the spot along with additional deployment. Police had a tough time in diffusing the situation but after much effort they finally managed to disperse the crowd after which accused was taken to police station under heavy security. Police has registered a murder case against accused Vikas Dubey at Gagret police station.
