Karnataka: Vittal insists on Covid -ve report from those loitering about | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: The Vittal town panchayat has been asking people to produce a Covid-19 negative certificate, in case they are found loitering about the town.
Chief officer Malini told TOI that in the wake of rising Covid-19 cases, town panchayat president Chandrakanthi Shetty called for a meeting, and passed a resolution on Wednesday. The panchayat reported five more fresh Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the total number of active Covid-19 cases to 62.
“We are noticing cases from particular pockets. Four special teams, including the police, panchayat officials and the health department have been formed to keep a tab on the people roaming around unnecessarily in the town. In case they fail to produce a Covid negative certificate, they will have to undergo a Covid-19 test on the spot. The town area is witnessing huge crowds in the mornings. People are not paying heed to our requests and announcements. People from the neighbouring panchayats also visit Vittal for shopping,” Malini said.
Further, a complete lockdown will be observed this weekend, where only milk booths will be allowed to operate between 6 am-9 am, and medical shops will function throughout the day in Vittal town panchayat limits.
