Lost at 2016 Ardh Kumbh in Haridwar, reunited at Maha Kumbh | Dehradun News – Times of India

HARIDWAR: In 2016, Krishna Devi got lost at the Ardh Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. Her family kept looking, filed a missing person complaint and published ads, but no leads came up. Five years on, a routine identity verification drive for the ongoing Maha Kumbh suddenly led to the 65-year-old woman in Rishikesh, now reunited with her family.
Krishna Devi’s story goes back to the loss of her daughter in 2016. “Her younger daughter had died. She left home to go to Haridwar. The Ardh Kumbh Mela was on,” sub-inspector of Kumbh Mela Police in Rishikesh Deepak Rawat said. Disillusioned and overcome with grief, she drifted away. As weeks went by, she went from one shelter home to the other, either unable or unwilling to get in touch with her family back in UP.

Her family desperately looking for her. “We had scoured all religious places, published her photos in papers, got ads aired on TV, but nothing helped. We filed a missing person report at the Udaipur police station. Every passing year, our hope dimmed further,” her husband Jwala Prasad said on Wednesday.
Just as the Maha Kumbh Mela started, police launched an identity verification drive. The pilgrim town is flooded with visitors and it’s routine procedure to keep track of people. At Triveni Ghat shelter home, they came across Krishna Devi.
