Murder of MNS functionary: Thane Police gets accused’s custody | Thane News – Times of India

THANE: The Thane crime branch has secured the custody of sharpshooter, Irfan Sonu, who was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force last week in connection with the murder of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) functionary Jameel Shaikh.
Sonu was presented before the Thane court that sent him to police custody till April 15. Sonu is accused of killing Shaikh in November 23, 2020. One person is already arrested in the case while the mastermind is still at large, said officials. The accused has named a NCP corporator from Thane who is believed to have plotted the attack and murder, said officials.
It may be recalled that Irfan and his aide reached a mosque in Rabodi area of Thane with the intention of killing Shaikh. As soon as Jameel stepped out and started his motorcycle, the duo followed him and after coming close, Irfan, who was riding pillion, shot him using a country-made pistol, said the police.
The police scanned the CCTV footage and identified the motorcycle used in the crime and arrested its owner. It is learnt that Irfan was sent to Gorakhpur and kept changing his locations to other parts of UP and Nepal after the murder and was arrested while planning to flee.
The deceased was an RTI activist and had reportedly filed some cases against the NCP corporator in connection with property issues in Thane.
