NEW DELHI: Covid vaccination centres across 34 Delhi government hospitals will open 24 hours from Tuesday onwards to make the inoculation available to the eligible public round the clock.
The Delhi government issued an order on Monday asking 32 government hospitals to run one third of the vaccination sites located in them 24 hours so that eligible people who do not get time for the jab in the day can get it at night.
“In order to accelerate the pace of Covid vaccination, it has been decided that the timings of functioning of the Covid vaccination centres should be further increased…..1/3 of vaccination sites in all the Delhi government hospitals will also function from 9pm to 9am. All the facilities will ensure deployment of adequate manpower at these sites to ensure smooth functioning of the vaccination sites,” an order issued by the health and family welfare department stated.
The vaccination is going on at 34 Delhi government hospitals including Lok Nayak Hospital, Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, GTB Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital, Delhi State Cancer Institute, etc.
An official said that all the Delhi government hospitals have six vaccination sites which currently operate from 9am to 9pm. Initially the vaccination sessions were held from 9am to 5pm which was increased by the government recently to boost the turnout.
“From Tuesday two out of the six sites located in each Delhi government hospital will also function 24 hours (from 9pm to 9am). The manpower at the centres will change with the hospital management making additional manpower for night shift. We expect people to turnout at night as well and get themselves inoculated,” said a health department official.
