Rs 24,370 crore allocated for education sector in Odisha Budget | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: The state government has allocated a total of Rs 24,370 crore in the Odisha Budget 2021-22 to strengthen the educational ecosystem in Odisha. Some of the major allocations will ensure transformation in universities, colleges and development of Adarsha Vidyalayas in the state. This amount was Rs 22,631 last year.
For Samagra Sikshya Abhiyan, an amount of Rs 3,066 crore has been allocated in the budget. This Abhijan is designed for the school education sector extending from pre-school to class 12. It is prepared with the broader goal of improving school effectiveness measured in terms of equal opportunities for schooling and equitable learning outcomes.
An amount of Rs 957 crore has been allocated for midday meal (MDM) scheme to provide wholesome food having requisite calorie and protein content to school children of primary, upper primary and national child labour project (NCLP) schools. State gives 40 per cent of the share for this central scheme. Last year the state had allocated Rs 800 crore.
The government has allocated Rs 280 crore for Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAV) opened in different parts of the state. These are model CBSE-English medium schools. A total 214 OAVs are operational in the state and 100 more are on the offing.
A sum of Rs 253 crore has been allocated for Mo School programme for infrastructure development of schools. An amount of Rs 430 crore has been allocated under the Gangadhar Meher Sikhya Manakbrudhi Yojana (GMSMY) to provide school bags to all children from Class-I to V, free textbooks and school uniform including shoes to all children from Class-I to VIII and free bicycles to all students in Class-IX of government and fully aided schools including OAVs.
For students’ scholarship, an amount of Rs 1,002 crore has been earmarked in the budget. It will be credited through direct benefit transfer (DBT). Last year, Rs 1407 crore were allocated for this purpose. The government has also made provision of Rs 100 crore for the World Skill Centre in Bhubaneswar. It also allocated Rs 10 crore for setting up of Odia University at Satyabadi in Puri district.
Besides, finance minister Niranjan Pujari on Monday announced that Rs 148 crore has been provided as infrastructure grants to the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) for promoting agriculture education, research and infrastructure.
