Trains have been source of Covid-19 infection: No HC relief for lawyers to travel in Mumbai locals | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Trains have been Covid-19 spreaders, said Bombay high court on Wednesday while refusing to allow lawyers to travel by Mumbai locals.
“Sorry. We are not going to allow. Trains have been a source of infection,” said a bench of chief justice Dipankar Datta and justice Girish Kulkarni while hearing a clutch of public interest litigation to allow local train travel for lawyers and their office staff.
Advocate Shyam Dewani said since the recent lockdown like restrictions came into force on April 21 lawyers are not allowed on the local trains. The judges said they are not going to interfere with the State’s order. They pointed out that courts are working virtually. But Dewani said some courts are working physically like the lower courts. The judges said the petitioners must wait till court vacation gets over.
Advocate Abhay Anturkar said even in case of urgent mention while circulation is granted, a copy of the petition has to be physically submitted to the court. He urged that at least lawyers’ clerks be allowed to travel by the locals. “Apart from trains, other transport is available,” said the CJ. The matters are adjourned to June 10.
