West Bengal: Kabaddi player, mom stripped and beaten in Bongaon | Kolkata News – Times of India

BONGAON: A district kabaddi player and her mother were on Sunday dragged out of their home in Bongaon town, stripped and beaten up by a group of women, who also chopped off their hair and ransacked their home.
A video clip of the assault and public humiliation went viral on Monday, prompting police to arrest the prime accused, Shrabanti Malik. A search is on for the others.
According to police, Shrabanti plotted the attack on the mother-daughter duo because she suspected the mother of having an affair with her husband, who is in the Army. The accused woman was taken into custody based on the video evidence and a complaint lodged by the 20-year-old player.
“I was getting ready for my training institute when I heard my mother’s screams from another room. I rushed to find a mob of women beating her up. When I intervened, they thrashed me as well. We were dragged out, stripped and our hair chopped off. Nobody came to our rescue,” the player said.
Bongaon SDPO Ashesh Bikram Dastidar confirmed Shrabanti’s arrest. “We arrested the prime accused and produced her in court. We are looking for the others involved in the attack,” he said.
